Attendance
Titan Aston Academy is working in partnership with parents and the Local Authority to improve school attendance. We would like to congratulate the many parents who make sure their children attend school regularly.
Absence disrupts the education of the individual pupil and the whole class. Are you aware that children who do not attend regularly:
- do not achieve well in exams
- find it difficult to maintain friendships
- are more likely to become involved in crime
- miss out on opportunities in further education and the world of work?
Students at Titan Aston Academy who achieve 100% attendance throughout the week will be awarded a certificate and a small prize.
Attendance during one school year | Equals this number of days absent | Which is approximately this many weeks absent | Which means this number of lessons missed |
---|---|---|---|
95% | 9 Days | 2 Weeks | 50 Lessons |
90% | 19 Days | 4 Weeks | 100 Lessons |
85% | 29 Days | 6 Weeks | 150 Lessons |
80% | 38 Days | 8 Weeks | 200 Lessons |
Research has shown that those students with 100% attendance are more likely to
secure the best grades at GCSE. In fact, students with no absence are 1.5 times more
likely to achieve 5 or more GCSEs at the top grades, and are almost three times more
likely to achieve 5 or more GCSEs including English and Mathematics than students
who have missed 15-20% of lessons. Similarly, students who progress to further study
beyond Year 11 will also find that good attendance is crucial in order to secure the best
outcomes.
Our ultimate objective is to ensure that students are ‘work-ready’ by the time they leave
school at the end of Year 11. Any employer will tell you that good attendance is at the
core of being a reliable employee. So we want all of our students to aim for 100%
attendance and to take every opportunity to be successful and prepare for the road ahead.
